Prof. Hansen has been working in the field of noise and vibration for 40 years, first as a Ph.D. student, then as a consultant in the USA (four years) and Australia (three years), and finally in an academic post at The University of Adelaide, where he has been responsible for more than 100 consulting projects in noise and vibration control. He has authored or co-authored 13 books, edited two books, contributed seven chapters to many books, and co-authored or authored more than 300 papers in international journals and conference proceedings on acoustics and vibration. Prof. Hansen is a past president and an Honorary Fellow of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). He is a Fellow of the Australian Acoustical Society and a Fellow of Engineers Australia, received the 2013 A.G.M. Michell medal from Engineers Australia for outstanding service to the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, the 2014 Rossing Prize in Acoustics Education from the Acoustical Society of America, and was the recipient of two Erskine Fellowships.
